5/19/21 - Lords Mobile: Why you should never pay attention to sponsorships.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: the date of this one may be off by a couple days, because unlike with the other essays i wrote around this time, i'm going off the "date created" blurb instead of the "date modified" blurb because I don't believe that i actually made any meaningful changes to this on december 6th, 2021. plus, MrBeast had 84 million subscribers in early december 2021, and i said he had 62m in the essay, which would've been accurate around mid-to-late may 2021.

Lords Mobile:

Why you should never pay attention to sponsorships.

I have no doubt in my mind that you know who MrBeast is. I'm not even going to try to explain him, except he has 62 million, yes MILLION subscribers on Youtube, and he likes giving things away. He's given away millions of dollars to subscribers and his friends. One video, he gave away a private island to one of his friends that won a certain challenge. (I won't spoil anything in case you decide to watch that video.) This private island cost about $800,000. So of course, MrBeast wanted a sponsor for his video so that he would be able to afford this video. The sponsor ended up being Lords Mobile. This sponsorship allowed people who started playing the game using his code to get a head start in the game, and a small chance to win a Nintendo Switch, PS4, or Xbox 1 S. Naturally, I was a part of this. I downloaded the game on my phone, and it was veerrry addicting, but not in a good way. If you've ever played a game like Raid: Shadow Legends, Lords Mobile, or Rise of Kingdoms, you'll know what I'm talking about. Long story short, I played that game for over 180 days, IN A ROW. Nonstop. Because I just couldn't stop. If I ever took a break, the game would punish me for it. Plus, I was in a clan, I was a part of something. It really sucked, being a slave to something I didn't want to be a part of. There were other games I like way better, like Fortnite, Celeste, even something like Clash Royale was better. Then one day, I decided I had enough. I distributed my resources to people in my clan, packed my bags and left. It felt great to be able to play other games again. Yeah, it was kind of similar to the Fortnite grinding. I felt free. Free, because I had finally gotten rid of Lords Mobile, a game I downloaded because it was sponsored by MrBeast. That is why you should just ignore most sponsorships, on Youtube especially. If someone is sponsored by Raid: Shadow Legends, even if there is a 1/10,000,000 chance you win a PS4, just ignore it. You'll be sooo happy you did.
